RESETTLEMENT is a film about an elderly Polish couple and their struggle against the impending loss of their home. A film about justice and coming to terms with the blows of fate – with a positive attitude towards life. A parable about growing old and staying young.
On one side there is MARIA (81), with her timeless, lively humour and unwavering optimism – on the other, her husband TADEUSZ (80), a quiet archaeologist and fatalist. After having lived in their apartment for more than 66 years, they are forced to move out. Both have to fight their own personal catastrophe, yet long-forgotten memories and experiences begin to resurface in kaleidoscopic fashion. With this film, Austrian director Filip Antoni Malinowski lovingly portrays his grandparents and offers a personal insight into the history of Polish citizens.

I just wanted to let you know I loved the film. I found it very moving, and rich in the way it moves through so many layers, themes (gentrification, home, post WWll, ageing, family, storytelling, gardening, pleasure, struggle, political and personal change...). It feels like a privilege to be let into these people's lives from such an intimate perspective. Aesthetically I liked its spaciousness, rhythm, sound, the use of still images, the quietness of the filmmaker's "voice"...
